Heat of teachers’ protest in and outside Odisha assembly; all-party meet called by Speaker fails

Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: Pandemonium continued in Odisha Assembly for the third day on Wednesday over the issue of ongoing protests by primary school teachers. The issue of teacher agitation dominated the proceedings of the assembly from the Zero Hour today. Earlier, the House was paralyzed on the entire Monday and Tuesday as the Opposition created uproar over the issue. However, though the BJP and Congress allowed the question hour to function on Wednesday, the House felt the heat since the Zero Hour, During the Zero Hour, BJP and Congress raised the issue of the primary school teachers and came down heavily on the government for being callous and not responding to their demands. Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha adjourned the house for ten minutes and convened an all-party meeting to resolve the matter. However, the all-party meeting remained inconclusive.  The Speaker later adjourned the Assembly. Thousands of primary school teachers from across the state are on an indefinite agitation here on the Mahatma Gandhi Marg since Sunday on their three-point charter of demands which include the abolition of the contractual system, resuming the old pension system and increasing the grade pay while counting their six years of teaching experience.
