October 18 marks the late actor Om Puri’s 70th birthday. The actor has changed the way the world sees Hindi cinema and its actors with his constant and impressive performances in films like Maqbool, The Foot Foot Journey and others.
On his birth anniversary we will remind you of five films that will be remembered forever with five brilliant performances:
Albert Pinto Ko Gusa Kion Aata Hai (1980)
In this iconic film, Om Puri plays a child mechanic. The film is directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza and stars Naseeruddin Shah and Smith Patil.
Bhavni Bhavai (1980)
Here Puri plays the poor “bhangi” – a cleaning lady struggling to survive in a feudal society. Directed by Ketan Mehta, the film also stars Smith Patil and Naseeruddin Shah. Ketan Mehta won the Nargis Dutt Award for a best feature film for national integration.
Om Puri plays a poor farmer who fights for his rights against the system. For this role he received the National Award for Best Actor, in which Victor Banerjee also starred under the direction of Shyam Benegal.
One of his strongest roles, Om Puri, plays a policeman in this Govind Nihalani film. The film also received Puri’s second national award.
Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)
Om Puri played a corrupt builder in what came to be known as the best satire Bollywood has ever produced. Directed by Kundan Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Neena Gupta also star in key roles.
