Bhubaneswar, 28/11:  In a further respite to the vehicle owners, the state government  today extended the November 30 deadline for vehicle check by another three months, This was announced by Transport Minister Padmanav Behera in the state assembly. The deadline was earlier extended for three months, which was going to expire on November 30. The vehicles check was scheduled to resume from December 1. However, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered the transport department to extend the deadline for another three months in view of the heavy rush of vehicle owners in front of the regional transport offices to obtain driving licenses and other require document, said the transport minister.  However, enforcement of amended traffic rules will continue in case of driving two wheelers without wearing helmet, not wearing seat belts in four wheelers, drunken driving and not obeying traffic signals and traffic rules and carrying passengers beyond capacity. Heavy fines will be imposed on the violators, said the minister. The amended traffic rules with the provision of heavy fines in case of violation of rules were enforced three months ago. But the sudden enforcement had caused public resentment as the vehicle operators were not ready with the requisite documents. The transport officers were not ready with the required infrastructure to issue the requisite documents. The imposition of heavy fine on the violators had led to public-police face-off at several places including the busy Rajmahal Square in the capital city. In view of adverse public response, the chief minister had given the vehicle owners three month time to keep the documents ready. The time period was going to expire after two days.
