Fresh twist to engineering student's suicide: family members blame the college authorities

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: In a fresh twist to the alleged suicide of a girl student belonging to a city engineering college, her family members today raised suspicion on the role of the authorities of the private institute. The deceased identified as Jhuma Debnath,a resident of West Medinapur district of West Bengal was found hanging in her room on Thursday. She was a student of fourth year in the computer science department of a city engineering college. "The college authorities had accused her of consuming narcotics and expelled from her the hostel. She was mentally disturbed since the incident and was hesitant to attend classes in the fear of humiliation," alleged her paternal aunt who reached the state capital on Saturday. Earlier it was alleged that the girl took the extreme step having been disgusted with the attitude of her lover. Police today seized a laptop, diary and other document from the room of the deceased. Police said that the authorities of the private college will be interrogated if necessary.
