Mauritius, June 3: Former Prime Minister and ex-president of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth passed away today.
Jugnauth was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. The 90-year-old politician was Prime Minister in for 18 years almost for six terms, beginning from 1982.
His Prime Minister’s tenure was from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. After completeting his tenure, he served as the President of Mauritius from 2003 to 2012.
He represented Piton & Riviere Du Rempartin the parliament during his political career.
Worth mentioning, he was the longest serving prime minister with more than 18 years of tenure overtaking Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who held the office for 14 years.
