Sambalpur, Sept 15: Even as the water level in the Hirakud water reservoir is receding in view of less rainfall in upper catchment area of the Mahanadi, excess floodwater was still being released to the Mahanadi, according to information.
Sources revealed, that after opening 14 more gates yesterday, the authorities decided to release excess water from the reservoir.
As per official data, water level of Hirakud stood at 628.15 cubic feet on Friday at around 6 am in the morning against its water-holding capacity of 630 cubic feet. The current inflow stood at 2,29,458 cusecs and outflow 2,67,577 cusecs through 14 gates.
