Firearm used in encounter of gangster Hyder sent for forensic examination

Bhubaneswar, Aug 9: The fire arm cartridges, clothes, blood-soaked soil and other seized articles found from the encounter spot of notorious gangster Sk Hyder were sent to the State Forensic Laboratory at Bhubaneswar for chemical examination. Hyder, serving a life sentence in two cases of murder and accused in several other criminal cases, was killed in police firing while trying to flee on his way to Baripada jail on July 24. He was being shifted to a jail in Baripada town in a police van from Choudwar circle jail when the encounter took place. Earlier, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of Hyder’s death.The commission has sought reports from Home Department’s Additional Chief Secretary, DGP, DG Prisons and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner within four weeks.
