Firearm smuggling racket busted in Odisha, 8 pistols seized

Bhubaneswar, April 9: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Brach today busted an arms smuggling racket and seized 8 firearms near Niali in Cuttack district. Police have also arrested two accused identified as Suresh Kumar Das and Soumyaranjan Dalei of Jagatsinghpur in this connection. “Basing on intelligence input regarding illegal possession and sale of illegal firearms, a team of officers of STF intercepted the two accused. During search we found two 7 MM pistols, six country made single bore pistols and 20 live ammunitions from their possession. Further investigation is continuing to ascertain the source of procurement of the firearms,” said an official. During last one year, STF has seized as many as 22 firearms, 54 live ammunitions and arrested seven criminals.
