Felicitation and handover ceremony of cesspool vehicle to Safaimitra

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today conducted felicitation and handover ceremony of cesspool vehicle to Safaimitra and unveiling of Sani-wall at ward office. City authority is facilitating promotion of Safaimitras engaged in fecal sludge management activities. Under the Safaimitra Suraksha City Challenge, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has endeavoured to provide financial assistance to 24 Safaimitras under Swachhata Udyami Yojana (SUY) of National Safai Karmacharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC). As a mark of such initiative Commissioner Sanjaya Kumar Singh has handed over cesspool vehicle to Chandan Naik and Bandhan Naik , two dynamic  Safaimitras of the city. Handing over the vehicle to the siblings Chandan and Bandhan Commissioner told, “this will surly encourage other Safaimitras of the city to come forward and take benefits of the programme”. BMC officials are also following up identified Safaimitras to orient them about the facilities available under state and central government schemes, he added. Chandan Naik and Bandhan Naik have received loan amount of Rs 15 lakh from Canara Bank where they have received a subsidy of Rs 6.25 lakh from NSKFDC under Swachhata Udyami Yojana. Under this scheme, both Chandan Naik and Bandhan Naik have procured 2000 lts. cesspool vehicle mounted on a 407 pick-up chassis. Now 22 more applications are at sanction stage at the bank. Under this challenge, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is ranked 6th at all India level. Two initiatives namely Sani wall( sanitation information wall ) and OR Code for generating demand for mechanical dislodging of septic tank have been taken up by the ULB for community level information promotion. At ward office there will be a “Sani wall- Swachha Kantha”will be placed to inform ward level sanitation information.  The QR code will be populated in each lane of the ward. Once scanning of the QR code is done, a form will be displayed at the screen of the customer’s smart phone which need to filled and submitted. After submission it will be verified by single window forum member at BMC grievance cell and coordinate with households seeking de-sludging services and provide the service. After completion of the service the cesspool operator will collect money through POS machine and issue receipt to the household. Both the initiatives are innovations of BMC and it will be implemented soon on trials. At first Sani wall will be tried in 22 wards through the NGO called Centre for Advocacy and research (CFAR ).
