Jharsuguda, August 19: A probe was initiated by the Chief Medical Officer(CDMO), Jharsuguda following a parents’ raised allegation regarding the exchange of their newborn boy in the hospital  Labor Room.

The exchange of a newborn came to light when one Raj Kumar Giri of Rampur village under the Brajrajnagar Block limit found his newborn boy replaced by a newborn girl.

According to the allegation raised by Raj Kumar, his wife Dipanjali Devi was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital Jharsuguda after she complained of pre-delivery obstetric pain. Subsequently, she delivered a healthy boy in the labor room with the intervention of the gynecologist and the labor room crews. After safe delivery, he was sent for fetching a dress and stretcher to transfer Devi to the newborn Ward. However, he found a newborn girl in place of his boy child when he came back to the labor room with a stretcher and other essential things, as asked by a medical nurse.

Getting his baby nowhere, Raj Kumar submitted a written complaint with the CDMO to get his boy child back.

A probe has been ordered. Action will be taken after the investigation report is handed over to him, said the CDMO.
