Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has arrested a fraudster for allegedly swindling government subsidies amounting to Rs 5 crore on the pretext of selling agricultural machineries to farmers. The arrestee has been identified as Srinath Rana, the proprietor of Tarini Auto agencies and former Regional Manager of Varushapriya Agrotech Pvt Ltd. The EOW arrested Rana acting on the FIR filed by KG Sree Charan, director of Varushapriya Agrotech Pvt Ltd, Bangalore at Bharatpur police station. Charan alleged in the FIR that Srinath Rana of Balasore town misappropriated the subsidy amount that should be credited to the beneficiary farmers' account. During the investigation, the EOW established that Rana, in his capacity as the regional manager and in criminal conspiracy with others, had fraudulently uploaded the details of more than 500 paddy trans-planters with fake engine and chassis numbers and names and photos of farmers of 18 districts of Odisha. Rana managed to get the subsidy amount of about Rs 5 crore that was to be paid to the beneficiaries. After the subsidy amounts were credited in the accounts of the beneficiaries, Rana lured them by giving some token money and grabbed the rest amount.
