Ensuring quality vaccine supply chain: State Vaccine Store at Bhubaneswar inaugurated

The Chief of Field Officer, UNICEF, Odisha William Hanlon Jr. told that Odisha has  made significant progress in immunization coverage as per NFHS 5 report and UNICEF, Odisha  is committed to provide support for further strengthening of health services

Bhubaneswar, Mar 4:  Health & FW and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Niaranjan Pujhari on Monday inaugurated the State Vaccine Store at Nilandri Vihar, Bhubaneswar. On this auspicious   occasion, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Govt., Health & FW Department Shalini Pandit,  IAS, Mission Director, NHM (O) Dr. Brundha D, IAS, Managing Director, OSMCL Dr. Poma  Tudu, IAS, Director, Family Welfare (O) Dr. Bijaya Kumar Panigrahy, William Hanlon Jr.,   Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Odisha, all Directors & Officials from Health Directorate and   Representatives from WHO, UNICEF, UNDP were present.  

Speaking on the occasion, Pujhari said that Govt. of   Odisha has left no stone unturned to achieve the goal of ““Sustha Odisha, Sukhi Odisha” by  providing quality healthcare services to our people. He also emphasized that the Full Immunization coverage of Odisha is 90.5% as per National Family Health Survey 5 Report, which is highest among all states in the country. On this occasion, Booklet on Ensuring Quality Vaccine Supply Chain under Universal Immunization Programme, Odisha was released by the Minister & other dignitaries.  

The Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health & FW Department, Shalini Pandit, IAS  highlighted that Immunization has significant contribution in reduction of mortality among  Under Five Children and there has been 50 point decline in Under 5 mortality in Odisha i.e. from  89 (in 2008) to 39 (in 2020) as per SRS Report. She also expressed that the Healthcare providers  of Odisha are committed to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated in our State.   

The Chief of Field Officer, UNICEF, Odisha William Hanlon Jr. told that Odisha has  made significant progress in immunization coverage as per NFHS 5 report and UNICEF, Odisha  is committed to provide support for further strengthening of health services.  

 The Mission Director, NHM, Odisha Dr. Brundha D, IAS said that new store has been   constructed under NHM PIP with budget of Rs. 123.25 Lakh and this store has adequate capacity  for storage of vaccines & logistics. She also highlighted that for effective management of  State/Regional / District Vaccine Stores, adequate manpower have been engaged under NHM.  

The Director, Family Welfare, Odisha Dr Bijaya Kumar Panigrahy said that the Cold  Chain & Vaccine Management system of Odisha is very much robust with adequate   infrastructure, manpower. He also highlighted that Vaccine & logistic availability status as well  as temperature of cold chain equipments in all cold chain points across the State are being  monitored through eVIN, a digital platform by the State & district authority to ensure  uninterrupted supply of Vaccines in proper temperature and other logistics. Dr. Panigrahy appreciated the support of UNICEF, WHO, UNDP for strengthening Immunization programme in the State.
