Engineering courses in Odia from current academic session

Bhubaneswar, July 18: In order to emphasize regional languages in technical education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has permitted BTech programmes in 11 regional languages including Odia. The languages are Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi and Odia. In pursuance of the motion, Engineering Courses in Odisha will be imparted in Odia if this decision is translated into action. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced it on Saturday. Acting on the recommendation of the afresh National Policy on Education, the "AICTE has rendered permission for conducting BTech programmes in 11 regional languages. According to Pradhan, PM Narendra Modi is committed to promote regional languages in mainstream education. NEP stresses on this important aspect to empower students coming from diverse regions. Earlier in the day, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu welcomed the decision of 14 engineering colleges across eight states to offer courses in regional languages in select branches from the new academic year. Accordingly, the repository of the Swyam Portal has been translated to the affiliated languages. The process is underway to publish the books and other references as soon as possible, said the Chairman of AICTE Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe.
