Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: Eminent freedom fighter Nilamani Samal passed away on Saturday.
He was 102.
Samal was the President of All Odisha Freedom Fighters’ Forum.
Samal, a resident of the Balichandrapur in the Jajpur district, had joined the Indian freedom movement at his early childhood. He was put behind the bars very often for his indomitable involvement in the war of independence. After his release from jail he was leading the Freedom Fighters' Forum in Odisha.
Samal was conferred the President's Award thrice, for his valiant contribution to the freedom struggle of India.
A pall of gloom has descended in Odisha after the demise of Samal due to geriatric problem.
Locals along with prominent persons thronged Samal’s residence to offer an adieu to the great soul.
