Keonjhar, Aug 27: Elephant menace in Keonjhar has put this year’s paddy crop at stake in Keonjhar district. Telkoi, the leading paddy-producing block of Keonjhar, is at the target of elephants. Herds of elephants are barging into Telkoi area frequently and damaging the standing crops. Elephants from Odisha and Jharkhand forests are marching into villages under the block and creating largescale devastation to the standing crops. {"id":132568,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} A herd of six elephants on Thursday destructed around 10 acres of paddy land of three farmers. Even the wild herd dismantled a number of farm huts, which were constructed to keep a vigil on the crops. ‘We have already lost the paddy crops on the uplands due to scanty rainfall. The growth of the crops on the deep land was a bit of assurance for us. However, it is being destroyed by elephants," said Birabar Nayak.
