Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Keonjhar

Keonjhar, July 23: Panic gripped among the villagers after a herd of elephants destroyed crops and houses in Kuladera village under Telkoi range of Keonjhar district. The herd damaged the house of one Sanatana Nayak of the village. This has been a trend for the past few years with herds of elephants raiding human settlements during the harvest season. Sources said the herd of elephants reportedly went on a rampage and consumed 10 sacks of wheat and 80 kg of rice. The locals spotted elephants damaging houses in the village. They immediately informed the forest department. The officials reached the spot and launch an operation to drive away the wild animals. Locals residing in the nearby area are spending sleepless nights in fear of being attacked by the jumbos.
