Keonjhar, Aug 17: Panic gripped locals in two villages of Keonjhar district after a herd of elephants damaged crops and houses early on Tuesday. A herd of elephants barged into Kuchiabeda and Palaspada villages under Saharpada section and caused extensive damage to the standing crops of Niranjan Munda. The herd also damaged the house walls. The herd staying in the area has given sleepless nights to local villagers. {"id":130737,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} The panicked villagers are also afraid of coming out at night. After failing to drive away the wild elephants by burning hay stacks, they complained to the Forest department. But the Forest officials are yet to take any step to ensure protection from the herd, they claimed.
