Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch police have arrested three persons and are interrogating them in connection with the electrocution of seven elephants at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district a week back.
The arrested were identified as CESU Junior Engineer Sanjay Mohanty, Meramandali Section Forester Prabhakar Rana and Meramandali Beat Forest Guard Girish Dehury. They were arrested on charges of negligence for which as many as 7 pachyderms were electrocuted on October 26 nights.
Notably, after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered for a Crime Branch inquiry into the incident on October 28, a CB team had started investigation.
It may be mentioned here that three CESU employees and three forest officials have been suspended by respective authorities for negligence. The incident of killing of such a big number of elephants in electrocution is said to be first one in the State. The incident has hurt animal lovers.
