New Delhi, May 21: Ratan Lal, the history professor of Delhi University's Hindu College, who was arrested last night over a social media post that appeared to question claims of a 'Shivling' found inside Varanasi's Gyanvapi mosque complex, has been granted bail. The court called the post a failed attempt at satire while granting the bail also ordered Lal to "strictly refrain from posting any social media posts or interviews" regarding the controversy. Ratan Lal had allegedly posted a photo of the structure and made objectionable comments on Tuesday. Lal was first summoned for questioning, and later arrested Friday night. Following the arrest, some student groups and organisations gathered outside the police station in Maurice Nagar supporting Lal. According to police, a case was registered against Lal under IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 295-A (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) following a complaint filed against him by a Delhi based lawyer.
