Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Sep 7: Ever since the Decision Review System (DRS) was introduced in cricket, several verdicts of the on-field umpires have been challenged by the players. On many occasions, the decisions have been reversed as well.
Of course, there are a few former players and fans, who at times feel the DRS system slows down the pace of the game and also raises question marks about the decision-making powers of the on-field umpires.
But India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has a different take on the DRS issue. Ashwin has opined that DRS in domestic cricket will help young Indian batters identify flaws in their technique.
It is interesting to observe that Ashwin has been keeping a close eye on the ongoing Duleep Trophy and sharing insights on his social media account.
Over the years, umpiring in domestic cricket has been under the scanners. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided introduce DRS during the Ranji Trophy semi-final and final for the 2019-20 season, but it had some limitations with no ball-tracking or UltraEdge technology at that time.
However, later the BCCI brought the full version of DRS for the final of the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy. In the last season, the full DRS was available for the final and semifinal between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu.
Citing importance of the DRS in domestic cricket, Ashwin cited the example of Ricky Bhui's dismissal of Manav Suthar's delivery during the India C and India D clash.
