Don’t engage non-healthcare personnel during treatment process: Govt

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: The Odisha government on Thursday directed the authorities of all government health facilities not to engage non-healthcare personnel to assist doctors or paramedics during the treatment process. Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra wrote a letter to all CDM&PHOs; Directors of Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, RGH, Rourkela, and Superintendents of all Government Medical Colleges & Hospitals in this regard. The Health department’s directive came following a media report, which alleged that a security guard was engaged to measure the blood pressure of a patient due to the non-availability of doctors in Ganjam district. Mohapatra informed that the government has taken serious note of this incident and due care should be taken that such incidents are not repeated in any government health facility. He instructed care should be taken not to engage any non-healthcare personnel in assisting the treating doctors or paramedics in the process of treatment.
