Puri, May 2: The annual Chandan Yatra festival of the Holy Trinity Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra in Puri will start tomorrow on the special occasion of Akshya Tritiya. 'Akshaya Tritiya' ritual, which heralds the beginning of construction of charriots for the Rath Yatra, is held at 'Rath Khala' outside the temple, while the 'Chandan Yatra' is organised in a sacred pond called Narendra pond in Puri. During summer months, the trinities enjoy water sports like common people plunge into water bodies to beat the scorching heat of summer. Madan Mohan, the representative idol of Lord Jagannath, along with the representative idols of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, Bhudevi, Sridevi and five Shivalingas known as Pancha Pandavas are taken out of the sanctum sanctorum, placed in lavishly decorated palanquins, known as bimanas and taken in a procession to Narendra pond. This festival lasts for 21 days. Devotees are eagerly waiting to have a glimpse of the festival while enjoying their water sports this year as they were debarred from it for the last two years due to the pandemic restrictions.
