Puri, April 7: Devotees and servitors, after the vandalization of earthen ovens from the kitchen of the Trinity, are concerned about the security breach in Puri Shri Jagannath temple. They have urged the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration and Puri district administration for intensifying the security system in and around the shrine. Senior servitor Binayak Das Mohapatra alleged that the security lapses in the Jagannath temple are the prime reasons behind scores of unforeseen incidents which are taking place inside the temple campus. The Jagannath Temple Police(JTP) which has been deployed for the safety and security of the temple are not performing their jobs properly. At the same time, as many as 70 JTP staff are now at work against the requisitions of 140 contingents. Similarly, the CCTVs installed for smart surveillance have also gone defunct for months together and have neither been refurbished nor replaced so far. Taking it an opportunity, miscreants are creating untoward situations in the temple premises which hits the sentiments of the common devotees and hinders the way of performing daily rituals of the Trinity and the side Gods & Goddesses, Das Mohapatra added. On the other hand, no stern actions have been initiated so far, against the security personnel who were solely responsible for the damage of at least 40 divine ovens (Chulhas) in the Rosaghar (Kitchen) which were used to prepare Mahaprasad for the Trinity, the senior servitor said. National security agencies anticipate threats from extremists on the world heritage sites. Security lapses in Puri Jagannath temple would account for such incidents, Das Mohapatra added.
