Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains are likely to in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsingpur district in the coming 24 hours. Similarly, all other coastal districts and some parts of interior Odisha will witness rains during the period till Wednesday morning.
The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has forecast this as the depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal intensified into deep depression at 11.30 pm yesterday and moved further west-northwestwards with a speed of about 11 kmph during wee hours of today. The depression lay centered last 03 hours,
and lay centered at about 570
km southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 530 km southeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). It is very
likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-
northwestwards for some more time and then northwestwards towards Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 72 hours, according to the Met release.
It added that squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to commence along and off
Odisha coast from today afternoon. It is very likely to increase gradually becoming 80-90 kmph gusting to
100 kmph from Thursaday evening onwards along and off south Odisha coast and 55-65 kmph
gusting to 75 kmph along and off north Odisha coasts.
Fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea.
