Dengue scare looms large in twin city as cases soar

Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, July 31: The twin city, which is already in the grip of Covid-19, has witnessed a surge in dengue cases. The capital city alone accounted for 505 patients till Saturday after the detection of 23 patients while the silver city has 11 cases of dengue in last 24 hours. The outbreak of dengue has triggered panic among Bhubaneswar denizens, coping with the Covid-induced lockdown amid the declining cases. {"id":127373,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} Anshuman Rath, BMC Zonal Deputy Commissioner (southeast) said, “There are 2-3 areas of concern where we are holding special drives. We have assigned senior officers to each ward to monitor sanitation drive." {"id":127372,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} Most dengue cases have been reported from Sailashree Vihar, Niladri Vihar, Chandrasekarpur, Unit VIII and Kalpana Square areas while in Cuttack most of the cases have been detected from Jagatpur, Mangalabag and Sankarpur areas. Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) commissioner Ananya Das said, “We have done fogging exercise there (in the affected areas), asked Anganwadi workers and do screening while door-to-door surveillance for Covid-19."
