New Delhi, July 5: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the excise policy case. Initially, the court concurred with the CBI's view that Kejriwal should have first approached a city court. However, during arguments, the bench decided to evaluate the merits of Kejriwal's direct appeal to the high court.
Representing Kejriwal, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi emphasized that the AAP leader is neither a flight risk nor a terrorist, noting that the CBI arrested him after he had already obtained bail in the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering case.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, in her order, acknowledged the notice and indicated that the petitioner's direct approach to the High Court would be considered during arguments. The court scheduled the matter for further hearing on July 1. Kejriwal, the AAP's national convener, has previously challenged his arrest in the CBI case, with the plea awaiting a decision from the high court.
