Bhandaripokhari: Unable to bear the burden of farm loan, a farmer allegedly committed suicide by of consuming pesticide at Deulidiha village near Dhamnagar block here in the Bhadrak district.
The deceased has been identified as Umakant Lenka, the resident of Nuapatana Sahi.
According to sources, Umakant had taken a loan from Bankura Service Co-operative Society an amount of Rs 40,000 and invested in his farm. He had also borrowed money from some money lenders in the locality. Stressed with the debt burden, he allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide on his farmland.
After a while, some villagers came to know about it and rushed him to the Bhadrak capital hospital where doctor declared him dead. Deceased’s family alleged that he ended his life due to excess loan burden for crop loss.
