Deal of Rs 14 L for selling fake gold brick: five accused held

Paralakhemundi, 27/12: Andhra Pradesh police has taken five persons of Gajapati district in Odisha into custody for allegedly selling fake gold brick. The accused were identified as Rohit Singh, Uday Lima, Atulya Jena and Bijayananda of Tabarada village Nuapada block of Gajapati district, Sarathi Mali of K Jhalarsingh village and Bibek Pani of Putasingh village. One more accused has absconded. The accused persons had allegedly sold fake gold brick to S Raju of Kiloi village under Mandasa circle in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, these accused had made a deal of selling 5 kilogram gold brick worth RS 14 lakh, after showing the sample of a real gold brick. However, the gold brick sold to Raju was found to be fake. Police started investigation after a complaint was lodged by Raju. On a tip off, police reached near Narsinghpur bus stop on Tuesday and rounded up five persons. However, another person named as Pramod had managed to escape. The detained accused persons confessed to the crime and police seized two fake gold bricks weighing 5 kg each, two gm gold and RS 1.75 lakh cash from their possession.
