Bhubaneswar, 3/12: The traffic rules checking is going on in full speed during the last three days. Around 2000 traffic rules violators have been fined during the last two days, according to traffic police sources. Though the state government had allowed three months relaxation and had gone for widespread awareness, the riders are still caught for violations like riding without helmet or seat belt and driving on wrong route despite knowing that they would be liable for heavy fine of Rs 5000. Thirty five locations across the city have been identified where people face repeated accidents for driving on wrong route. Now strict checking is being undertaken at these identified points. On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Sagarika Nath was present during checking at City Womens’ College Square to supervise the checking drive. Police sources said rules for production of documents like driving license, registration certificate, insurance certificate and vehicle fitness certificate etc have been relaxed for another three months up to February end. However, heavy fines will be imposed for the offences like driving without helmet, not wearing seat belt, not obeying traffic signal, crossing zebra crossing and driving on wrong route.
