Keonjhar, Jan18: The Prime accused of Graham Stains’ ablaze case Rabindra Pal alias Dara Singh may be released from prison on compassionate ground.
If the Home Department implements the Supreme Court’s order effectively the so called Hindu fundamentalist will be set off.
According to an Home Department official, in 2016 the Supreme Court had instructed the Home Department to release the convicted prisoners, who have already spent 14 years of imprisonment.
Accordingly the department had instructed all jail superintendents to prepare a database of the same prisoners. However, the cases of prisoners, who have reformed themselves for healthy social living, will be considered with priority.
Acting upon the order, the state Home Department has forwarded names of 24 such prisoners to the government for approval.
As of now, names of Dara and another four eligible prisoners have been sent to the State Penal Punishment Review Board, which is to meet soon.
It might be mentioned here that Dara’s release proposal was put on hold in 2019. However, in the meantime, Dara is seen behaving more politely to the inmates and custodians.
