Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: Growing cyber crime in Odisha is now a concern for the denizens. A record of as many as 123 cases in the state in just three days has been a challenge for police.
As per the information of the state cyber cell, online fraudsters have duped Rs 10.38 lakh of 46 persons over various offers on the Republic Day. All of them have lodged complaint with Bhubaneswar cyber help desk.
Nine complainants have lost money from their accounts during online transaction. At least 14 cases have been registered on the basis of UPI crediting.
Similarly, as many as 77 cyber fraud cases have been referred by different police stations across Odisha.
While the number of cyber crimes has been on the rise all over the state, the break through of the police is negligibly less. The recovery rate is also poor. Just Rs 28,000 has been recovered against crores of rupees lost due to cyber fraud. No active gang has been cracked yet.
As of now, State Cyber Cell has recently blocked only 20 suspected numbers against hundred calls. As a result, fraudsters are fooling denizens to dupe over the discount offers, sizable bonus and instant loan.
