Puri, Feb 5: A large crack has developed on the right side of the gumuta of Puri Srimandir’s north gate. Some small pieces of broke stones were found near the gate also.
The crack in the lotus-shaped structure has posed threat to the lotus-shaped structure.
According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the portion of the temple where the crack has appeared was under soil earlier. The rack was found after removal of the soil.
The conservation work of the Srimandir is going on and this crack portion will also be conserved, said ASI conservation assistant Jyotiprakash Pradhan after inspecting it.
Various outfits have raised concern and have demanded immediate repair of the structure.
