Covid infection to animals: Nandankanan Zoo under scanner

Bhubaneswar, May 5: Corona scare grips Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar after eight lions of Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad tested Covid positive. The zoo authorities have taken up utmost care to protect the animals from the fatal disease. Accordingly, the employees of the zoo are undergoing thermal scanning at the entrance before getting into the zoo. The custodians of animals assigned to animal care are being sanitized while passing through the enclosures. Similarly, thermal scanning among the animals is going on. Old animals with history of previous ailment are under special care. Especially, inmates living in flocks inside a narrow surroundings are continuously being taken care of in order to diagnose flulike symptoms. On the other hand, sanitation mechanism in and around the zoo has been boosted for preventing infection in general. However, there is no report of flu tendency with any animals inside the zoo so far, said a zoo official. Notably, Nandankanan authorities had declared to shut the zoo for fifteen days amid lock down earlier.
