Covid helpline of Odisha flooded with hoax calls

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: 104 helpline, meant for providing emergency call assistance to Covid patients in the state has been flooded with thousands of hoax calls. Employees of the call centre said that they have been receiving several abusive calls. Taking actions over such frequent hoax calls, Ziqitza Health Care Limited, the agency responsible for its operation in state has lodged an FIR with the Saheed Nagar police station. Officials said that between January and July, a total of 863515 numbers of call came to the helpline number out of which 367334 phone calls were hoax calls. Officials said that callers making prank calls often ask for mobile numbers of female telecallers. Some of them even are not hesitant to propose the telecallers. Besides there are callers who want the telecallers to listen to their songs. Sabysachi Biswal, Head-Odisha, Ziqitza Health Care Limited said that “Due to these fake calls to 104 helpline number, many genuine callers are facing problem. Odisha government has started 104 helpline number from 2020 to provide Covid-19 related services like counselling on testing, reporting and medical-related information. However, several callers have been making prank calls making it difficult for genuine callers,”
