New Delhi, August 10: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was suspended from the Lower House on Thursday for misconduct shown in the house towards the PM.

With a pending investigation by the privileges committee earlier against the Congress leader, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved a resolution seeking Chowdhury’s suspension.

The committee  alleged Chowdhury  that he used to disturb the House during  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ministers' address in connection with major issues, relevant for the nation. Subsequently, the resolution was passed by a voice vote sought in the Lok Sabha.

Responding on his suspension, Chowdhury said that he had not intentionally insulted the PM in any way. He said, "I have uttered Mr. Silent, acting on the silence of the PM on the burning Manipur issue".

However, Chowdhury refuted the allegation of any miscunduct in the house, to the PM and other ministers.

Following the motion, a mixed response was rebounced in the Parliament among the rulling BJP and opposision allies, in connection with the action initiated against the senior member of the house.
