Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Congress today launched Jan Sampark Abhiyan to reach out people across Odisha. The initiative was launched by social worker Daitari Nayak at the Congress Bhavan here where he flagged off a specially designed bus which will move across the State to reach out people before the upcoming elections. Many senior leaders, including Odisha Pradesh Committee president Niranjan Patnaik, former Union Minister Srikant Jena travelled in the bus to Balasore. The bus will move to all the 314 blocks in the State in phases. Sources said Patnaik, during his three-day stay in Balasore district, will hold small meetings at the panchayat level in a bid to take feedback from people and to highlight the failures of the NDA Government at the Centre and BJD Government in the State. This move of OPCC came two days after the ruling BJD launched a month-long ‘Jan Sampark Padyatra’ to sensitise people about various welfare schemes introduced by the State Government. Faced with the challenge of reviving and rebuilding the party ahead of general elections, the Congress has taken many efforts to strengthen its organization. The party has decided that the party workers who will enrol 2000 members will be invitee member to the PCC while those aspiring for party tickets have to enrol a minimum 10,000 members. Meanwhile, the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) of the party has selected candidates for 44 Assembly seats out of the total 147 in the State in the first phase.
