Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: The Left Parallel Road project along Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan road may get delayed as the state government fearing to evict the encroachment following strong oppose by residents of Salia Sahi slum ahead of 2024 Odisha Assembly election.
The Salia Sahi slum including four wards with 50,000 voters is known as the BJD home turf. Similarly, the Chunakoli village under Andharua panchayat of Jatni constituency consists of around 1,000 families. If the state government evicts the villagers, it will affect the ruling party’s vote bank. The state government is not in favour of taking any risk ahead of the election.
Construction of 900 meter stretch of the project is yet to be completed between Hatiasuni in Salia Sahi slum and Ekamra Kanan. Around 386 families are residing in the area and the administration has failed to evict them despite several attempts.
Similarly, the 3 km stretch of the road from Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) office in Sailashree Vihar and Pathargadia village is yet to be completed following oppose by Chunakali villagers and delay in forest land acquisition.
