Commissionerate police works out special drives for crime control in twin-cities

Cuttack, Oct 20: In a view to expedite crime control in the Twin-City, Commissionerate police has worked out on special drives during the festive season. Operation white spider is keeping a close vigil on the illegal drugs trade in the cities and intercepting the peddlers in order to keep youths and students away from drugs. At the same time, Cuttack police have adopted 'operation clean' to deal with heinous criminals, illegal arms trading in and around the silver city recently. Sources said, police, during a few months of adopting the mechanism, have seized a huge cache of brown sugar, ganja and other contraband articles during various operations. At the same time, a good number of illegal drugs peddlers have been intercepted with cracking their modus of operandi. Similarly working out on operation clean, Cuttak police have arrested hundreds of notorious criminals within a short time recovering a good deal of firearms and other weapons. Meanwhile, as many as four notorious criminals have been nabbed with a huge cache of firearms in Cuttack on Wednesday. At least five country-made pistols and 12 round live shots were recovered from their possession. As part of the mission, police are undertaking continuous raids, blocking and checking at different places in and out of the city at different times to foil criminal conspiracies in the cities. Spectacularly, police have recovered as many as 59 firearms along with 200 usable bullets during the stern operation. On the other hand, professional criminals, snatchers, highway looters, drug smugglers, and gangsters are in panic for the new mechanism of police. It’s why the rate of crimes in the cities has also gone down in comparison with other months. According to police, a special squad conducted a surprise raid at the Bidyadharpur area under the Chauliaganj police limit last night, based on an intelligence report regarding firearm trading in the twin cities. During the operation, police nabbed four accused and seized pistols and bullets which were to be peddled to the criminals. Further investigation is underway to nab the whole chain of the accused purchasers, said Chauliaganj police.
