Commissionerate Police forms Anti Extortion Task Force

Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Commissionerate Police today formed Anti Extortion Task Force to prevent incidents of extortion in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.   The unit will operate under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Rekha Lohani. “Besides an Anti Extortion helpline will be launched on October 19 and identity of an informer will not be revealed,” said Police Commissioner, Sudhanshu Sarangi. Sarangi further said that concerned police stations will hold regular meetings with the vulnerable group. “Concerned DCP will take review in every week while the Additional Commissioner will take review in every 15 days. Informers will also be rewarded,” added Sarangi. Police said that a list of antisocial who was earlier arrested on charges of collection of extortion will be prepared and the concerned police stations will ascertain their whereabouts. If necessary, habitual offenders will also be booked either under the National Security Act (NSA) or section 110 of CrPC.
