Bhubaneswar, Mar 7: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the first ‘Adivasi Bhawan’ at Gothapatna in Bhubaneswar.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that the forthcoming structure, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 100 crore, would serve as a versatile hub for tribal art, culture, dialogues, meetings, conferences, and exhibitions.

Envisioning it as a cornerstone for the advancement of tribal communities, he expressed optimism that this initiative, dedicated to the tribal populace of the state, would contribute significantly to the realization of the vision of 'Nabin Odisha, Empowered Odisha.'

Notably, the proposal for this facility was advocated to 5T Chairman Kartik Pandian by various tribal groups, as highlighted by the ST & SC Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department. Upon its operationalization, members of 64 Scheduled Tribes categories, including primitive tribes, stand to benefit.

Designed as a flagship project under the aegis of the Special Development Council at the state level, this multipurpose complex will cater to the diverse needs of the tribal populace. Dubbed 'Adivasi Bhavan,' it will offer accommodation for tribal community members from across Odisha while also accommodating their distinct cultural practices, culinary preferences, and social norms, thereby fostering an inclusive environment.

Moreover, the 'Adivasi Bhavan' will feature conference facilities, the Koraput Coffee Cafe, and the second outlet of Adisha. Serving as a vital infrastructure hub in Bhubaneswar, it will provide comprehensive information on healthcare, education, governmental services, and other amenities. Additionally, it will serve as a platform for the display and sale of tribal artifacts and traditional attire.

The demand for the construction of the 'Adivasi Bhawan' stemmed from the collective voice of all Scheduled Tribe communities, seeking a space for deliberations, awareness campaigns, and the exchange of innovative ideas for tribal welfare.

During the event, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the ST & SC Development Department, Roopa Roshan Sahoo, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. Notable dignitaries present included Scheduled Tribes & Scheduled Caste Development Minister Jagannath Saraka, Director of Scheduled Tribes Indramani Tripathi, and other senior officials from the department.
