Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: A woman from Chhattisgarh, identified as Sarojini Ranveer from Purat village, was rescued today in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district after being swept away by the Mahanadi river for approximately 60 kilometers.
Some fishermen spotted her at Palsada Ghat under Lakhanpur block and immediately jumped in to save her.
Sarojini was found with her feet bound with a chain. Upon rescuing, local residents provided her food, and she is reported to be in stable health.
The locals also informed police about the incident. More details in this regard is underway.
Worth mentioning, in a similar incident back in 2016, a young woman named Soni Yadav was rescued near Kusumel after being swept away approximately 60 kilometers from Chhatisgarh. Following her rescue, Kishore Mohanty, the MLA of Brajrajnagar at the time, adopted her as his daughter.
