Bhubaneswar, May 20: City administration here makes a week-long drive to restrict dumping of debris and construction materials on roadsides and public places. This week-long intensive drive is aimed at creating awareness and lifting tons of debris from public places and roadsides ensuring safety and sanitation of the communities. The drive will continue up to May 27 covering all wards under three administrative zones of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). Team BMC has made day-wise coverage of ward level areas to conduct awareness, cleaning and enforcement against violators. As many as 10 wards were covered today and the violators have been fined Rs 71,000 whereas 76 trips of debris have been lifted to the designated places at Patia and Kargil road area. “ In a bid to keep the city clean and safe BMC has started the drive prior to the rainy season where corporators, Zonal Deputy Commissioners and sanitation team of BMC are involved to create ward wise sensitisation on waste management rule 2016. It is observed that many are in practice of keeping their construction materials in public places. Also, throwing of construction and demolition materials to the road side is creating harmful situation for fellow citizens. In such cases people need to inform BMC officials like ward officers and seek office approval to keep the construction materials in a right place. On the other hand citizens are requested to seek appropriate permission to throw their debris in right places as fixed by BMC,” said Additional Commissioner of BMC, Laxmikanta Sethi.
