BMC intensifies ward-wise fogging activity for coronavirus

Bhubaneswar, March 23: At a stressful time when the Odisha Government is on a war front to prevent the spread of Corona, the civic administration has also intensifies sanitation and cleanliness drives. Along with regular cleaning activities the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started fogging activates across the city with directions from BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary. According to the directive, Additional Commissioner Suratha Chandra Mallick has prepared a work-plan on fogging for the State Capital. In the process all 67 wards would be included in a three-phase manner. Deputy Commissioner (Sanitation) Suvendu Kumar Sahu and City Health Officer Dr. Basanta Kumar Mishra are leading the execution of the work-plan and the sanitary inspectors concerned are given the sectoral responsibilities to carry out the initiative effectively. It can be mentioned here that as per the area-based need one sanitary inspector is designated as a nodal officer. Since last five days the fogging work has already been taken up in ward no 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 31, 32, 33, 44, 55, 56, 57, 59, 60 and 62 by yesterday evening. On daily basis on an average 12 wards are getting sanitised through fogging by this process. By this work-plan every ward will be fogged for three times and during 5 am and 7 am in the morning hours and 6 pm and 8 pm during evening hours the fogging work is done by the civic body. BMC has deployed six fogging machines (Thermal Induced Fogging Applicator or TIFA) and four machines are under deployment through rent for the programme. This fogging work, however, is being done to eradicate mosquitoes from the environment and not for the larvae and eggs in water. The largest civic body of the state aims to finish the programme by the first week of April.
