Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: As Odisha continues to reel under incessant rain due to the low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 31 spots in the state capital that are vulnerable to waterlogging. The BMC has kept pump sets ready for immediate draining out of rain water as part of its preparatory measures for urban flooding. Besides, JCB machines have been engaged to clear blockage areas in the city. The civic body had held a meeting chaired by mayor Sulochana Das on Saturday. BMC commissioner Bijay Amrut Kulange, three zonal deputy commissioners and city engineer were present in the meeting to discuss ways to avoid urban flooding in the capital city. It has been directed to open shelter centres in low lying areas and slums. Besides, teams have been formed to evacuate people in case of emergency, said the mayor. All ward officers have been directed to remain alert for any untoward situation. The fire services department has been directed to remain prepared to drain out rain water in low lying areas. Similarly, the PHD has been directed to supply drinking water in submerged areas, the mayor added.
