Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: Ruling BJD will intensify protests if cooking gas prices are not slashed by November 30. This was informed party MLAs Byomkesh Ray, Pranab Balabantaray and Debi Ranjan Tripathy at press meet. The leaders alleged that the steep rise in the price of cooking gas has given a body blow to the poor and the middle class. The party questioned the Central government’s justification behind a 123% increase in the price of cooking gas when the price of natural gas and crude has respectively dipped by 15 and 10 percent. Earlier, Biju Yuva Janata Dal, Biju Chhatra Janata Dal and Biju Mahila Janata Dal (The students’ wing, youth wing and women’s wing of BJD) had also participated in the state wide protest against cooking gas price hike. The leaders pointed out that beneficiaries of Ujjawala scheme have again gone back to using mud stoves due to high cooking gas prices.
