Bhubaneswar man duped of Rs 99K by a fake customer care executive

Bhubaneswar, Dec 20: A man was allegedly duped of Rs 99,000 after an unidentified caller, claiming to be a customer care executive of an e-wallet firm, asked him to follow certain procedures for refund of money. The victim Bairagi Charan Rout has lodged a formal complaint with the Chandrasekharpur police station. Rout alleged that he had made some payment through the e-wallet application for recharge of his satellite TV. “After the TV recharge was not activated I searched for the mobile number of executive of the e-wallet firm on Internet. I got one number of called him and informed him about the development and he gave me some instructions,” alleged the victim. The victim initially lost Rs 78,954 and called the fake number again. “He again directed me to follow another set of instructions for refund and my account was deducted with Rs 20,152. Later the fraud disconnected the call and blocked my number,” added Rout.
