Bharat Bandh disrupts morning life in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: The 24-hour nationwide strike called by trade unions today against anti-labour policies and other issues disrupted normal life from early morning in Odisha. {"id":23375,"sizeSlug":"large"} Workers and leaders affiliated to various trade unions staged blockade at various traffic intersections and on the busy NH 16 across the state from 6 AM grievously affecting road transport.Protests were also staged at government offices, business establishments and industries disrupting their functioning. {"id":23376,"sizeSlug":"large"} Train services were also hit following detention of Kendujhargarh – Bhubaneswar passenger at Kendujhargarh station, Bhadrak – Palasa DMU train at Bhadrak station, Puri – Rourkela intercity and Coromandel Express at Bhubaneswar. Similarly, three trains Ichapuram – Cuttack MEMU, Brahampur – Palasa and Yesvantpur –Howrah Express were detained at Brahmapur station. Apprehending trouble, fuel filling stations were shut down from early morning. Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has called a day’s strike on January 8 along with nine other trade unions. CPI and Congress have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh in Odisha. However, Biju Janata Dal remained non-committal. Tight security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward situation.
