BEO and clerk arrested in Odisha for taking bribe from headmaster

Rourkela, Mar 4: Vigilance sleuths today arrested Block Education Officer (BEO), Hemgiri Block in Sundargarh district and junior clerk of his office on charges of demanding and accepting bribe. Vigilance sleuths said that the BEO identified as Surendra Kumar Sahoo and the clerk Biranchi Khilei were held for accepting bribe of Rs 35,000 from Narayan Bagh the headmaster of Sahaspur U.P. School. The duo has demanded the bribe not to initiate any departmental action against the headmaster for abnormal delay in submission of utilization certificates from 2010 to 2021. Officials said that the BEO has accepted the bribe through the clerk. Accordingly, a trap was laid on Thursday and the accused were caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance. “The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused. In this connection a case has been registered and further investigation is continuing,” said an official.
