Bhubaneswar, 25/11: The assembly was on boil during zero hour today on the issue of rape in Tentei area of Jagatsinghpur district. The House was adjourned till 3 pm due to uproarious scenes. Opposition Congress and BJP members stormed the Well shouting slogans against the government, disrupting proceedings. Finding it difficult to run the House, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the proceedings till 3 pm. During the Zero Hour, Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra raised the issue and demanded the statement of the chief minister, who heads the Home department. Pressing for the demand, Congress members rushed to the Well of the House. BJP members also joined them in staging dharna in the Well. It may be noted that the Opposition BJP and Congress have been criticizing the Naveen Patnaik government for alleged rise in crimes against women. The House was stormy for the first five days of the ongoing winter session over the death of Haridaspur panchayat executive officer Smita Biswal’s death, with the opposition demanding CBI inquiry into the incident alleging that the local BJD leaders were involved in her mysterious death. However, the government had rejected the demand. On Friday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had asked the opposition not to politicize any tragedy especially relating to women.
