Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Pradeep Kumar Jena asked people in flood affected areas to remain alert during the next 24 hours.

“Water level at Mundali in Cuttack is receding. The peak of the flood is beginning to decline in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Puri. However, we need to remain alert tonight,” said Jena.

Jena said that affected district administrations have been equipped to provide safe drinking water to affected people.

“More than 4.5 lakh people have been affected in the flood while more than 2.5 lakh people have been marooned. More than 60000 people are being provided with cooked food while as many as 425 villages have been marooned,” said Jena. He also said that the number of people affected by the flood is likely to increase as they are yet to get information from field level officials.

He also said that the extent of crop damage will be assessed 48 hours after water recedes from affected fields.
